Playing Rules...
The Middle Village Roller Hockey League follows the rule book of USA Hockey Inline in regards to game play. However, there are few differences as stated below:
In all divisions we follow NHL line rules including blue line-touch up off-sides, elimination of two line pass call but we use automatic icing. In the event of icing, the offending team may not change their players untill the ensuing faceoff.
- We use 3 x 20 minute periods.
- We use a 5 minute overtime period if a game is not decided in regulation.
- The MVRH determines its own terms for suspensions on a case by case occurrence pending a league official meeting.
Important Notes from USA Hockey Inline Rule Book:
***A 5 minute major penalty calls for an automatic game misconduct penalty.
***A team is allowed to start a game without a goalie providing they have enough players to field a lineup. However this is not recommended.
League Rules...
- Teams must have enough players to start at their scheduled game time. If they do not have enough, they will be given a 5 minute grace period for players arriving late. Should they have enough players during the grace the game will start with that team serving a 2 minute minor for delay of game. Should they fail to have enough players at the end of the 5 minutes, they will forfeit that game.
- Players must play at least 51% of the season in order to qualify for the playoffs. Attendance is kept at every game throughout the season. In the event of forfeits, all rostered players will receive the benefit of the doubt and get credit for that game. In the event that a player signs up and the season is already underway, he/she must play 51% of the remaining scheduled games (including makeup games from before he/she signed up) to be eligible for the playoffs.
- In the event of snow, the league will organize a snow removal day in order to clear the rink so that there is no excessive cancellations. Each team is required to have at least 3 representatives (the coach counts as a representative) in order to help clear the rink. Failure to do so will result in a minor penalty to start the next scheduled game.
- The first game of the day is responsible for taking out the nets and the last game of the day is responsible for putting the nets away. Failure to do so, will result in a minor penalty at the start of the next scheduled game.
- All spectators must stay on the opposite side of the benches and are not allowed to stay behind the goal net area.
- Teams are not allowed more than 3 coaches on the bench at any time. A minor penalty will be issued for failure of this rule.
- Each team is asked to supply a volunteer to be the penalty box attendant during the game.
- In the event of an injury, parents are not allowed to come onto the rink unless the situation is an emergency. In the event that it is not an emergency and parents come onto the rink, a team will be given a minor penalty.
- The league will not tolerate abuse the abuse of referees and league officials.Ý The first time, the individual(s) will be given a warning. The second time, the individual(s) will be asked to leave the rink area and will not be allowed at the rink during the next scheduled game. The appropriate team will also be given a minor penalty. In this case the puck will not be dropped until the individual(s) is out of the rink area.
- Players will not be given their league jersey until they are paid in full.
- During the playoff season, each team will be given one ÏmulliganÓ in regards to canceling a game. However, this must be done in advance in the event that a coach knows that he will not have enough players for the game. No team however, can win a championship on a forfeit. In the event that a deciding championship game will be forfeited, the game will have to be cancelled. However the team will have to play game at the next available game date that the league finds suitable and will start that ensuing game off with a 10 minute misconduct penalty effectively being shorthanded for that 10 minute period
